Haitian Fish Patties


  1. Cod (or any other boneless fish) – ½ kg, cut in small pieces
  2. Onion – 1 medium, chopped
  3. Red bell pepper – 1, chopped
  4. Hot chillies – 3, chopped
  5. Oil – 2 tablespoons
  6. Potatoes – 750 gms
  7. Cheese – 200 gms
  8. Milk or Butter – 200gms
  9. Oil – for deep frying


Soak fish overnight in salt water. Drain fish and wash off salt. Heat oil in a wok. Add the onions. When translucent, add peppers, chilies, salt and fish. Sauté till done. Then remove from heat and shred the fish.

Boil potatoes and mash with cheese, milk or butter. Add the shredded fish mixture and mix well. Make patties and deep fry when required.

The patties can also be baked in a moderate oven, Gas mark 4 for about 30 minutes.
